Jasper is a sweet 12-year-old beautiful black kitty. She was relinquished by her owner of 12 years because of allergies. Jasper was very sad and scared in her new surroundings at Whiskerville. We all made a point to find her whenever she took to hiding in a corner or behind a box, and give her some extra special attention. She really warmed up to us, though she was still overwhelmed by all the activity around her.

We thought her weight loss was because of stress, but tests revealed she is hyperthyroid. She will have to have surgery to remove her thyroid glands which will cost about $500, and will be on medication for life. We don't know if her former owner was aware of this already, and so far, our request for help with treatment has not been answered.

Jasper is a very loving and sweet girl, who has been through so much lately. We are doing our best to get her the care she needs. The routine medical treatments we provide for all the animals in our care are a huge part of our annual budget. When major health issues like Jasper's occur, we could really use some extra help, so that it won't limit what we can continue to provide for the new animal friends who are continually coming through our doors.
