In Memory of Harry
June 22, 2006

In April 2004, we received a call from our son, saying that a dog was on his front porch and looked like he wasn't in good shape. We found the dog, weak and emaciated, and took him home. It took two hours to cut all the matted hair from his body. When we could finally see his face, we saw that he was blind. We also discovered that he was nearly totally deaf. He was so covered with fleas that after two baths, the water was still blood red. The vet told us that he was between twelve and fourteen years old, and so severely anemic and starved that he probably wouldn't live.
Well, "Harry" wasn't ready to give up. The vet said he responded faster than any dog she had ever treated. Four months later, a specialist was able to restore some sight to one eye. We also had a large growth removed from his back leg. Another one grew to take its place, which was also removed. Soon after, they began to grow with a vengeance. His entire leg was covered on both sides with tumors. There was no hope, even if the leg had been amputated.
Harry went to heaven on June 22, 2006. His was a peaceful death after two years of happiness with us. He lived with a great zeal, as though he knew he had been given another chance at life. Happiness to Harry meant being next to me at all times. He also loved chicken fajitas and riding in the car. Our hearts and home feel so empty with him gone, but we are comforted by knowing that we were able to give him all he deserved. You've earned your rest, Harry Dog, and we know we'll see you again, running and jumping at the Rainbow Bridge. We will love you forever.
