In Memory of Prescott Dixon
October 14, 2000
Prescott
was merely another stray kitten that entered my life a couple
of years ago in a "batch" of nursing babies from
the Houston S.P.C.A. As most of you already know, I fell head
over heels in love with him. He had problems from the start
(mainly a Herpes virus in one of his eyes that he just couldn't
shake). After the eradication of that eye (and much ado),
we thought he was on the road to being the kitty love of my
life for many years to come.
That proved not to be true.
It was discovered in early September that Prescott had F.I.P.
(a noncurable virus much like the coronovirus in dogs). There
is no effective vaccine and no cure. Along with one of the
best Veterinarians (and absolutely wonderful lady), Dr. Julie
Molitor of Austin & Associates, we tried everything to
build up his immunity so he could live a little longer and
still have quality of life. Dr. Roger Terrel (yet another
wonderful Vet and person) assisted while Dr. Molitor was away.
Prescott living on was just not to be.
On
Saturday, October 14th, 2000, at five past 6:00 in the evening,
Prescott died after laying his head in my left hand, his left
paw in my right hand and taking two little breaths. I will
thank God for the rest of my life for affording me that much.
As silly as this might seem to some folks, I can tell you,
the love that little guy exuded for me was almost unreal.
That, to me, is proof positive that some people simply do
not give all God's creatures the credit they so much deserve.
If there are any of you that have never experienced this with
an animal, I hope that one day you will discover that I am
not a total idiot.

P.S. Thanks to each and every one of you who sent cards,
flowers, or called. It meant the world to us.
