A Tribute to Lurch
For those of you who know me well, you know that this is the first time in 43 years that I have not had a dog. I can still remember the day that I had to finially send Sassy to doggie heaven at 14-15 years of age for her. It took quite some time for me to get over that, and my Great Pyr Bailey, even longer.
When I had to find Bailey another home due to selling mine, I was blessed to have my friend Heather, take him for me. He quickly became the protector of Heather's 6 yo little girl and 2 ducks, 2 goats, 3 other dogs, 3 acres, and a horse. He settled right in, and I knew it would not be fair to take him back once I found a home.
While still in the process of looking for a home, and feeling very empty without a home, and a dog, I found another soul looking for a home too. Another Great Pyr whose name was Lurch, at a place called Whiskerville. I called and spoke to Wydell Dixon, and immediately liked her after speaking with her, and she told me all about Lurch. I went to go see Lurch the very next day at The Pet Palace, and WOW - was it a Palace !!! And the girls were great !! But Lurch was the best - even though he had to be shaved from hair matts, his Great Pyr heart shone right through. My eyes teared, much as they are now, and I felt finially, my life was less empty, and hopefully as soon as I decided on a home, Lurch would finially have a home to go to also. I was so excited, perhaps for the first time in many months. I came by to visit him again the next day, and Wydell was kind enough to understand my unusual circumstances while looking for a home. Lurch and I were to have a "Date" on Saturday, and I couldn't wait !!
Unfortunately, Lurch was having some greater health issues than anticipated, and he became worse. Wydell kept me informed the whole time, and when she called Monday night, I heard in her voice that it wasn't good. Lurch was sent to Heaven Tuesday morning.
I am very sad. Even though I hadn't known him long, he had stolen my heart, as he did with Wydell, and many others at The Pet Palace. It is to those people that I say " Thank You ", and to all of Whiskerville - it is because of people like you, that pets have a chance from the horrible hell out on the streets.
For those of you reading this email, please go to www.Whiskerville.org to find the lovely tribute to Lurch, and see his beautiful picture. Also, please read about Whiskerville and take a moment to go through the website.
Thank you Wydell, and if you can, please send this to the girls at The Pet Palace.
Love, Jules
